#10 - I though it was just me thinking she was saying Cutty's Ark. Or Cutty Zark. Maybe she was Cornish.

Nerb - My brother's nickname is Cutty, so I was sure I heard them say "Cutty's Ark". I don't think they really knew what the story was about.

Cate,
The 'City of Adelaide' is five years older than the 'Cutty Sark'. The 'City of Adelaide' is in danger of demolition in Scotland. These two ships are the only surviving composite clipper ships left in the world today. Both ships are of immeasurable value to the world maritime community and anyone who loves the era of sail ships. If they are gone, it will be a great loss. The 'City of Adelaide' was specifically designed to service South Australia and made 23 return trips from the UK to South Australia. Thousands of migrants and goods vital for the survival of the colony were brought out with wheat, wool, copper and other exports taken back for the UK markets. I doubt that the 'Cutty Sark' team will require your volunteer skills as they akready have a professional team in place. However, there is much you can do for the 'City of Adelaide', a ship just as beautiful as the 'Cutty Sark'. The website www.cityofadelaideclipper.org has more details. Please have a look at it.

its dabatable how much of the city of adelaide can actually be saved, and wether the completed article would just be a replica
I cannot believe in this day and age people still wish to dispose of such craft!
Application to Demolish 'City of Adelade'
If she were a maritime wreck then she would have greater protection! And there are only a handful of these craft left.

http://www.scottishmaritimemuseum.org/irvine.htm

I'm pretty sure there's a clipper, Carrick, awaiting restoration at the Scottish Maritime Museum in Irvine. Anyway, its been sitting there for about 20 years.
The links above about Adelaide seem to be the same ship, but are about 7 years out of date. "Appeal to Culture Secretary , Chris Smith...." Hmmm.

The ship cannot be restored to a sailable condition without turning it into a replica. However, there is enough there to be a static exhibit like the 'Cutty Sark'. I know this as a fact - have had access to the report on it. The website www.cityofadelaideclipper.org is not out of date. The group had to be put on hold as a UK businessman had first right to it. Now that the ship is in danger of demolition, the group has remobilised. The action plan is achievable - just needs more publicity and support.
