I have a 5+ hour layover in Heathrow after the long haul from Australia next week and will be desperate for a shower and shampoo. All I can find in my searching is 15 pounds for a shower at Urban Retreat! Surely there is something cheaper in the whole of Heathrow! Happy to carry my own small toiletries but will need a towel and hairdryer. Or do I truly accept that Heathrow is the world's worst airport and scramble in my 2 hours in Singapore to fit in ablutions there for far less?

BAA Website indicates that is the only place.

Showers at Heathrow

Thanks odecar10 & alanR ... yes, both those sites were what my searching found already. I resist paying 15 pound for a shower! There's no information on charges at Terminal 4 - can anyone shed light on that please?

You do get free tea or coffee!!

Why can't you have a good washdown in the toilets at Heathrow.

They are very modern and clean. At least the ones I have used in T.3 have been.

I am amazed that with the Oz obsession with showers that your airline Quantas does not have them on board!

It'll probably be raining anyway, so just have a walk outside.

After 22 hours you would be "desperate" for a shower and a shampoo? You would be great on a camping trip.

Perhaps not for you but some airlines (like Air Canada) do have arrivals lounges open to Business Class travellers or those who are members of the Airlines' "club" For example, Air Canada has a lounge at Heathrow with showers, breakfast, newspapers, champagne (!) available, as I mentioned, to Business Class travellers or those with membership in the "Maple Leaf Club" (membership fee about $200CDN per year....comes with other perks like Business Class check in etc).

A google search brought up tht there are two Quantas Club lounges at Heathrow with showers: Airside, Terminal 4, near Gate 1 and Gate 10 - perhaps worth looking into ?

'Will need a towel and hairdryer' ... crikey! First time travelling for you then I guess?

By the way, a shower isn't necessary. Take a fresh change of underwear and a deodorant stick in you carry-on luggage; not only does it save you if your luggage is lost/misdirected, but when you have long layovers during a long flight a change of knickers can do wonders. If your carry-on can handle it, a change of t-shirt and jeans (better still lightweight cotton trousers are great) also works. If you absolutely positively HAVE to have that shower, you are going to have to fork out the dosh.
