Afternoon,
I haven't posted in a while.
I'm just after a wee bit of advice, I'm flying into Manchester from Oz in late September, and am trying to fill in some space.
I'm male and in my mid-twenties and are hoping to get some ideas as to what pubs, bars etc are tops in the area.
I've been told to head to 5th Avenue, Lime and a pub ( I forgot what it's called,) that provide great food ( something about 'chops' if I remember correctly.)
Anyway, can anyone recommend anywhere for a single lad like myself to check out. ( Except the printworks, went there on my last visit - a bit too chavy for my liking - wound up in a fight in a couple of places - mainly due to my inability to allow inebriated teens to grab my girlfriend at the time.)
I'm staying at the Princess hotel on Portland street, anyone else stayed there before?
Your help is much appreciated.

Sam's Chop house is a lovely traditional pub with fantastic food. It's either on cross street or just off it. There's also Thomas' Chop House which is more of the same. If you're staying on Portland St, make the effort to find The Temple. It's on Oxford Rd, opposite Pizza Hut, and it's a great little bar that used to be a public toilet. It's down some stairs in the middle of the road. Great atmosphere with good bottled beers.

I'd suggest if you want a few nice bars then go to the Northern Quarter (down Oldham street)...Bluu is nice, also Odd and Rodeo does deals on Margheritas before 7pm..its really chilled out and funky there. If not i'd suggest revolution on oxford road, or a little cocktail bar (£2 all cocktails, all the time) called Font just round the corner.
As for clubs - depends what music ur into! 42's is cheap and indie. Subspace is motown/funk and on a Sat nite and i think thurs (check website) - one central street.
Any more info u can pm me, i live in manc
S. xx
Sankey's would be the obvious club for house/techno.
Northern Quarter is MUCH less chavvy than Printworks. It's just off Picadilly square.
Portland street is an excellent location for many of the nightlife in manchester. I see you have experienced the printworks but there are some new clubs open around there now including birdcage. You are coming at the height of the new student season so many places you go will be packed! One of my all time favourite nights out is CANAL STREET. This is the GAY area of manchester and many people travel from the UK for a great night out here. It is very friendly and you will find good drink baragains! There is a bar to suit everyone and it is a great laugh whether your gay/straight/whatever!!
