Hi everyone, I am planning a trip through Western Europe (London, Paris, Barcelona) in August/September with a week-long interlude to meet up with family in Eastern Europe. The family trip tentatively will be Verona >> Ljubljana >> Plivitce Lakes >> Split >> Dubrovnik. Is there a relatively painless way to get from London (Heathrow, preferably) to Verona, and then from Dubrovnik back to London? I've checked through Ryanair and British Air, and done a Skyscanner search, but (maybe not that surprisingly) there don't seem to be any direct routes.

I realize there may be questions about why I'm looping back to London instead of just progressing from Western Europe to Eastern Europe, etc. It's mainly a timing issue and I've left out the background to avoid turning this into a long post, but please ask away if you need any clarification. Thanks in advance!

I don't see your problem. Skyscanner shows direct flights from Gatwick to Verona and also Dubrovnik to Gatwick.

If you are going back to London presumably you are spending time there so does it matter which airport you go to? If not spending time then there is no reason to go there.

To get from Gatwick to Heathrow there is a direct national express bus or train via central London.

For Verona you could take an alitalia flight via Rome! Dubrovnik you could use Austrian Airlines or Lufthansa via Vienna or Frankfurt. None of which are going to be much quicker then into Gatwick and then coach or train but will cost you more.
Failing that fly into Milan take train to Verona, in Croatia get back to Zagreb fly direct to Heathrow. Lots of way of working round this but probably in most cases more costly.

Thank you! The London-Verona flight I was hoping to take out of Heathrow because I will be arriving there from an earlier flight that day. You're correct richiavo, I will be spending time in London when I head back west, so I can fly back into any airport -- and checking now I see some direct options from Dubrovnik to Gatwick and Stansted. On the way east I may go with your suggestion re: Milan; have not been to Milan so might be nice to make a stopover there! Thanks again.

Flights into Heathrow are often late: do not plan onward travel on the same day. If you have not already bought the ticket for the beginning of your trip, buy one to Italy (Verona, or a nearby hub such as Milano) rather than to London. If you have already bought, contact your airline/travel agent and see if it can be amended to be a ticket to Italy.
