Hi

I have to stay in Liverpool for a day in May (15 May Wednesday), and I want to spend the daytime to visit the Lake District.
I found busybus.co on the internet and found that they only arrange such tours on saturdays.
Does anyone know any day tours to Lake District which operates on weekdays?

Thank you!

You could travel to Windermere and then join a Mountain Goat tour http://www.mountain-goat.co.uk/

You'd need to set off early from Liverpool to reach Windermere by 0945, but possible eg depart Liverpool Lime Street railway station at 0657, changes at Wigan North Western & Oxenholme to arrive Windermere railway station at 0846. Return journey would be another 2 hours or so by rail.

Thank you so much and I really appreciate the detailedness of your reply.
However, do you know any tours which departs directly from Liverpool, so I can save the transit times for trains?

#1 has got it right - day coach trips in this country are normally organised for specific groups eg geriatrics like me.
I am surprised there are any from the Pool, see if you can find a tour to Snowdonia, north Wales Llangollen etc instead.

It wouldn't take much less than 2 hours to get from central Liverpool to Windermere by coach, so the train link I suggested doesn't "cost " time that you wouldn't have to spend any way. You'll see scenery from train or coach.

You might find adverts for one-off day trips (as Grahamopolle says, mainly aimed at old people) in local newspapers etc - not so much online, as, perhaps wrongly, coach companies assume old people don't use internet.

May isn't high season - there are probably more tours in July / Aug, and weekends throughout year - so for 15th May, you'll have to think a bit more laterally, which was the basis of my suggestion to get train to Lakes, then a tour from a Lake District town.

#4s suggestion of using the train is certainly valid and fine if you can find a way around the Lakes. Logically it'd be better to leave later on the day before so as to set up the trip on arrival. The UK does have a reasonable public transport system, particularly if you compare with, say, France but it aint geared to tourism, particularly since the Beeching cuts.

Another thought woud be to search for Birkenhead-based companies - ferry cross the Mersey - dont discount the mid-Wales option - it is an equally delightfuk area - with great castles.

Thank you all for your suggestions! At last I decided to spend a whole day in Lake District and another day in Liverpool, by myself and not joining a geriatric tour LOL!
