Hi, heading to the lake district middle of august for 3 or 4 days, not sure which part yet but we're going to be camping.just wondering is this a bad idea with this weather we're having?Any flooding up that part of the country? Our idea at the mo is a days cycling,a days kayaking/watersports,a days walking and then maybe a day driving around to see places of interest!we will be driving from london so our main interests would be scenery and to just get away from the hustle and bustle of the city although a nice pub nearby wouldn't be frowned upon!!Can anyone recomend a good campsite that would be fairly central for all these activities?Feel free to throw in your favorite walk/bike ride/watersports area,we have the car so if its a bit away from the campsite its no big deal. Thanks in advance!

No flooding and given the nature of the land (ie hilly rather than flat) you aren't going to get flooding hanging around for long

We've got no flooding up here at the moment. The landscape is designed to drain heavy rain. As regards the wisdom of camping in this weather, we have no shortage of rain at any time of year, but it doesn't seem to put the hundreds of campsites out of business.

The best locations for scenery, watersports and walking would probably be either Ullswater or Borrowdale, but that's just my opinion. There's a campsite called Parkfoot, near Pooley Bridge which is located near the Ullswater shore. In Borrowdale, Hollowstones Farm in the village of Grange has a campsite in a beautiful location, next to the river. However, facilities are very basic.

Just be aware, whilst you won't get the hustle & bustle of London, the Lakes will still be heaving in August. If you really want to get away from it all, the Western Lakes of Wast Water and Ennerdale will be much quieter. However, there may not be much infrastructure for watersports etc.

Good pubs for good ales & food are the Horse & Farrier at Threlkeld nr.Keswick, The Sportsmans on the A66 halfway between Penrith & Keswick, the Swinside Inn in Newlands Valley nr.Keswick.

Perfectly good idea, I have exactly the same intention. I assume you're aware there's a bank holiday at the end of August - if that's the case make sure that you don't drive up on that Friday, will be absolute murder.
