After a few months of playing relocation spin the globe, I've got a lecturing job at Uni of Sussex, and so I'm moving to Brighton. I'm currently in London and trying to find an apartment in Brighton (a 1 bed, or would consider a studio if I get stuck but definitely not a share, budget about 600pcm). I'm checking all the usual places (findaproperty, rightmove, gumtree) but I'm finding it hard going to find something close to the uni (falmer campus). I thought I'd post this on the off chance, some Brightonites might know of something in their building etc.
I start Oct 1st so I'm feeling a bit stressed about finding somewhere decent. The only time I've been to Brighton was for the interview last week, but I got a really good feel about the place straight away, so I'm feeling excited to be moving there.
Thanks :)

Remember that the Falmer campus is half-way between Brighton and Lewes, so you should investigate properties in both places. Hove is also a possibility (really it is part of Brighton, but a bit further from Falmer).

There is a newsletter called Yellow Monday that often carries small ads about places to live. You can find it on-line on the IDS website (ids.ac.uk). IDS is an Institute on the Falmer campus.

Thanks for that :) I checked out that newsletter and it has a couple of interesting options. I love TT!

Hello,

If you can find a place close to London Road train station it will be slightly more convenient for you in terms of getting to the campus. Lots of students live along London Road out toward the uni, but I never took the bus so I don't know how fast it is in terms of getting there (the train would obviously be the fastest). My wife and I lived around York Grove (kind of behind the Brighton station) and it was great for getting to the train in the morning - except that it was up and down a massively steep hill every morning!

All along Queen's road (the road leading down from the station to the beach) are estate agents that have places advertised. If you want to share then no use checking these places. I am not sure how much time you will add to your commute if you were to live in Hove (since the train doesn't run through - you would have to change in Brighton).

Good luck!
