Hi--Does anyone have a suggestion for an economical, convenient way of getting from Heathrow to the cruise pier in Southampton (besides the bus or train)?

Thanks.

Check Megabus or Megatrain for cheap London to Southampton,

Cycle it?

And what is your objection to bus or train? If you think they are too expensive, look at advance-purchase one way tickets, and be prepared to book them 4-6 weeks before your date of travel.

I don't know how else you'll going to get there economically. Ok so maybe hitch-hike but realistically Mega bus is cheapest from London. I don't think they go to Heathrow and by time you've added on fares I think the cheapest and most convenient option is going to be the National Express. A one-way fare is £13.50 and return is £21. Not bad comapred to the train (and local bus fares).

Also you'll going to probably get a cab from Soton station to the terminal as it's a long trek and I don't know of any buses, some pass near though.

#3 What advance purchase tickets did you have in mind? They don't exist on this route, Megatrain aside.

Might be cheaper if you don't go via London. There's a rail-air bus to Reading I believe, and you can get a train to Southampton from there.

Bizarre! If you exclude bus or train, that quite limits your options. But I see that the shipping schedules do include occasional freight ships from Tilbury (a Thames-side port downstream from London) that continue to Southampton before sailing on to the Americas or Africa. Most take a handful of passengers. Most of these services serve other European ports between London and Southampton (eg. Tilbury - Hamburg - Europort - Southampton). The journey takes anything from 12 to 90 hours depending on intermediate stops. It is however more expensive than Megatrain. There are also flights options from London to Southampton, all involving a change of plane en route (eg. London City to Amsterdam, changing there for an onward flight to Southampton - or via Jersey). Sincere apologies if I've missed the point of your question.
