Planning to travel to Hampton Court Palace in the next few weeks, departing from the West End or thereabouts. The River Bus even one way will exhaust three + hours just one way. Looking for ideas for a return journey that may include a mixture of water travel, the tube & above rail transport that will save some time. I guess the visit will take all day.

Many thanks in advance.

Just take the direct train back from over the bridge.

To see the palace and the gardens is tight for the day, there is so much there! You really don't have time for the river bus. So go for the simple option and take the train to Hampton Court station, which is handily just over the river from the palace. You don't even have to cross the road.

the train intersects the tube at Waterloo, Vauxhall and WImbledon. Vauxhall is on the Victoria line and may be the quickest way depending on where you start. I used to commute the route!

food in the palace is pricey, take snacks. The audio guide is free and well worth it, and has the plus that it stops people shrieking. Look out for Henry VIII and some wives.

finally, check for any special events which may interfere with your visit.
