I will be traveling through UK this spring and I am now face with a little logistic problem. I would like to walk one day a section of the Cotswold Way. I have read that the nicest town is Chipping Campden. I am trying to plan to start my walk at this town and terminate at Winchcombe (approx 20 miles away).

I would like to set base camp for a few days in Bath, to visit but also to easily travel by train to Cardiff, Tintern and the Cotswold. The return from Winchcombe to Bath should be easy as there is a direct train line between Cheltenham and Bath. My problem is getting to Chipping Campden early in the morning. The train takes over 2 hrs via Reading and stops only at Moreton-in-Marsh. Then I will need to wait and take a bus for Chipping C.

Is there any quicker way to get to Chipping C? Or should I move my base camp further north (I was thinking Cheltenham) and still have quick train transit to the other locations?

Help will be appreciated.

The 1st public transport options of the day from Bath get you to Chipping Campden for 10:16 in the morning (http://www.transportdirect.com). Which is useless. However, the first public transport options of the day can get you to Winchcombe for 08:19 which might be tolerable.

Assuming you finish in Chipping Campden around 17:00, you can take the last bus of the day out of Chipping Campden at 17:20, which will get you back to Bath via 3 buses and 2 trains for 20:34.

Failing that, a taxi from Chipping Campden to Cheltenham may be required; it's 22 miles so is gonna be maybe £20-30.

Refer to http://www.transportdirect.com.

Should you miss that 1720 bus out of Campden all is not lost - there is a later one at 1830 to Moreton in Marsh arriving at 1857, with a train to Bath at 1946 via Reading - arriving at 2214
