My wife and I are off to Birmingham next week. Can anyone suggest some good restaurants. WE are partial to Chinese, Indian and Japanese. On the takeaway side are there any good outlets for Doner Kebabs.

Also, I saw on a programme a year or so ago, a place called "Island Hut" that specialises in curry goat. Is it good. Is it far from Birmingham city centre?

Thanks everyone.

There are plenty of ace Chinese, Korean and Japanese restaurants in the Arcadian centre (AKA the Chinese Quarter). Just follow signs to the Hippodrome theatre (about 2 minutes on foot from the Bullring shopping centre if you come out of 'New Look' on the ground floor). I particularly like Cafe Soya.
Brum is also supposedly the Balti capital of the Western Hemisphere (or thereabouts…) so you shouldn't have many problems finding some Indian treats. I believe there are some more upmarket Indian restaurants in the Mailbox shopping centre (also walking distance from the central bit). Enjoy.

Selly Oak is a studenty area with lots of Balti houses for those on a budget. You can get well fed for a little over a fiver. 15 minute train ride from New St.

Pretty good Chinese food can be found easily in teh Chinese Quater, as MrsMonkey says. FOr Indian, well you're only problem is going to be avoiding the bad ones there are loads and you'd need to ask whihch are the current god ones, but Adils on Stoney Lane Sparkbrook has always been good . As for Island Hut, if it's the one I'm thinking of in Lozells then yes the Curry Goat is excellent, but it's a take away, and not exacly in an area of town you'd be visiing or even passing through (I know I'm from just up the road)

One other thing, lots of Balti houses are BYO alcohol
