I will be in London for a few days in late October. I'd like to make two day trips - one to Canterbury and one to Brighton. Take the train down in the morning and back in the afternoon. Can anyone recommend a good walking tour guide in each place that I can contact and engage the services of for an intelligent and interesting day in each place.

Both locations in my opinion are straight forward to explore without a guide. I would buy a good guide book and go from there. There are key sites at each city, The Pavillion in Brighton, and the Cathedral in Canterbury where it may be better to join a tour which the ticket sellers would organise.

I would also buy my railway tickets in advance. Journeys from London can be as low as £5 one way when purchased in advance (specific service). www.nationalrail.co.uk
