Firstly thank you to everyone that replied to my first two enquiries, Much appreciated.
My query now is I have booked into a hotel in Bayswater but after reading reveiws on a couple of websites I think I have booked into the nightmare hotel,so now I am concidering of changing hotels and one that is repeatedly turning up favourable on the site is in Cricklewood, address being Cricklewood Broadway,London NW2 ,3ED. Can anyone advise me of area and is it very far from central London and tourist sites and places of interest? I am traveling with adult children.
Thanks in advance

Cricklehood has hotels now? Oh boy...

Cricklewood is... not the worst area of London, but it's not an especially nice place. And it certainly isn't Bayswater. It's a short bus ride from Golder's Green but it's not on the tube network: only the overland trains from Cricklewood Station. As well as being a little "Ghetto," you may feel isolated from the "Action" up there, but I do know by reputation several excellent fried chicken establishments in the area.

There are some motel type hotlels in the Cricklewood area and one international standard hotel(The Crown).

As #1 posted, Cricklewood isn't the most beautiful part of town, but it has a lot of character. There are countless busses that take you to the centre of town in 20/30 minutes with the overland rail connection(Thameslink) that takes you to the centre of London in about 10-15 minutes. Depending on where you are on Cricklewood Broadway, it could be a 10 minute walk to Wilsden & Kilburn Underground stations.

For areas of local interest, the Hampstead(Cricklewood borders West Hampstead) and Highgate areas are great for a walk in the woods and are very picturesque. You're also very close to the Abbey Road studios that the Beatles made famous(go to see the zebra crossing!).

Overall, Cricklewood is fine to use as a base for trips into the city, but doesn't really have too much to offer international travellers.

Feel free to ask if you want any additional info.

You must be getting desperate if you're thinking of staying in Cricklewood. It wouldn't be my choice.

Every city has places where we would not advise people to stay. Cricklewood is one of these places. I would strongly suggest that you don't stay there at all.

Cricklewood is fairly attractive. There are many London suburban towns which do not figure much on tourists' visit lists but why not see these places? Buckingham Palace is not in Cricklewood. There are some bars and cafes and restaurants if you want to stay there and it is not long on public transport to the central areas.

There is a lovely hotel/hostel in West Kensington called Ace hotel. Its immaculately clean and a double costs around £70 per night. I think they also do family rooms. Definately worth checking out -its in a nice residential area and 2 mins from West Kensington tube station from where you can get into central London in no time at all!!!
Or the YHA hostel (which does private rooms AND dorms) in the beautiful Holland Park - next door to Notting Hill and Kensington!
Good luck!
