Visiting the capital for maybe 3 nights. Can anyone advise any hotel/ apartments that are good for young children (she'll be almost 2). Also looking for somewhere that offers baby sitting as hoping to go out one night in London.
After this moving onto Cambridge. If we cant stay with friends this time then we'll also need to find a house sit/ apartment for just under a month.Ideally Cambridge, or surrounding villages, at a push Newmarket, Ely, etc.

Both Travelodge and Premier Inn have family rooms. They are basic hotels, but perfectly adequate and you can get good deals especially if you book online. They won't offer babysitting however.... as far as I know, that service is hard to come by even in expensive hotels and quite frankly I wouldn't want to leave my two year with a complete stranger.
If you eat early, many restaurants are child friendly and I would take mine with me.

Ok thanks, will have a look and see what they do offer. Wasn't for meal but a show. Obviously we would be taking her with us for meals out :0)
Hey acoton,
Like bellart1 said, Premier Inn's are in my opinion, the best hotel chain in the UK!! They are child friendly and most have Beefeaters or other resturants attached that have a kids menu. Breakfast is included in your stay and the beds are the best in the world!(even better than my own). I would recommend the Premier Inn to anyone and it is really cheap but not scrappy.

Options in Cambridge depend very much on what time of year. During university vacations, renting an appartment in a college might work OK. See http://www.universityrooms.com/en/city/cambridge/home (for bed and breakfast deals, but it will get you started).
Also, try Anglia Ruskin University - they have some appartment blocks, again available only in vacations, when students are not resident.
Premier Inn Cambridge is on onskirts - convenient for A14, but not so good for walking / cycling into town. Travelodge Cambridge is more central, in leisure park, just beyond railway station. Otherwise, lots of bed and breakfasts, plus youth hostel near railway station, which has family rooms.
One recommendation of a place to visit, loved by children for generations - Wandlebury Country Park, Gog Magog Hills, on bus route 13 and 13A between Cambridge and Linton: http://cambridgeppf.org/wandlebury-country-park.shtml Kids loved running up and down Iron Age earth ring and slope on Games Field, seeing Highland cattle and Norfolk Horn sheep, beech woods etc. On some days, there are special activities such as Tree Festival, craft and wildlife days, pond dipping etc.
.

Thanks again. I am originally from just outside Cambridge...so know most of the options you've said. A bit different being a tourist somewhere that you used to live! Had a quick look at university accommodation but didn't realise Anglia Ruskin did it too, good to know. We'll be there over new year and into January, so hopefully most of the students will be away. Have been to Wandleburry a few times, though must admit had forgotten about it.
