Does anyone have a recommendation on companies for renting a small economy car in Bath, England for 2 or 3 days and returning to Bath? Knowing what kind of rates to expect with insurance would be helpful as well. We would be reserving from the US. AAA is giving us a rate of $101 US which includes insurance, which seems a little high. But maybe that's the going average. I've looked up some other agencies online but hard to get an accurate read of rate with insurance. Sorry if someone has recently addressed this - but I didn't find any specifics in my search.

Also, would it be true that having a car in Bath is unnecessary? If so we would reserve it for the morning after our overnight in town.

Many thanks...

We use www.carhire3000.com to pre-book overseas cars, from Australia ... and we like them a lot (they are a subsidiary of rentalcars.com).

This link - for an arbitrary date in October, shows $US90.00 for a Toyota Auris for three full days, including insurance etc. Sounds reasonable to me. We rented an Auris in Ireland this year (stick shift), and it was fine to drive.

There may be competitive small local operators as well of course ... but there are distinct advantages in pre-booking, so you save time when on the road.

You won't be happy driving a car in Bath, as with a lot of cities it is very car unfriendly.

Agree with the others. Also bear in mind that fuel prices are roughly $9 USD per US gallon equivalent.

They are picking up and returning the car to Bath ... presumably they are taking the vehicle off for a jaunt in the country or something.

It's a good point about Bath not being car friendly, not only is it a very congested small place it also has little parking. So if you want a car to visit other places, then it's a good idea and I assume that's why you mentioned Wales in your title?
