I am planning on being either in Bristol/Bath over Xmas and Boxing Day...are there any suggestions of thngs I might be able to do? Are is everything simply shut down for the holidays? Thank you.

Hi, don't give up! No replies but I've just seen your post and hope to help!
Most major indoor attractions will be shut. Some pubs will be open and of those, there will be some with an excellent atmosphere (xmas eve is usually very good if you are here then - warning, some pubs only allow regulars in but I may be able to sort that for you).
Both Bristol and Bath have very interesting areas that are suitable for walking around, you just need luck with the weather. You may find a cafe open for a warm drink.
Where are you staying, what do you like to do, I can help further. I doubt that buses will run between Bristol/Bath.
Best wishes,
Martin

Basically England closes down on Christmas Day - so no public transport, no major shops, no tourism sites (except the Charles Dickens Museum in London as presumably they believe it's humbug) - pubs will be open for a couple of hours during the day, most restaurants will be closed except those selling VERY expensive Christmas Lunches (pre-booking required)
You may find small shops & ethnic restaurants open - as will be the churches
No public transport from @ 10pm Christmas Eve to 8am Boxing Day (it's a bit like 28 Days Later!).
In Bristol OR Bath? Do you have your own transport.
The flip side is it can be quite interesting to explore the likes of Bristol city centre (harbour side etc) without the hordes!
But you'll need your own transport!
Thanks for the replies. I have decided to stayb in Bristol from the 21-24th December and day a few day trisp (Bath, Wells as well as exploring Bristol). I enjoy anyhing arts/history... museum as well as just walking in and out of every street to get to know the town. I decided on Bristol as it semmed that more shops would be open (and coudn't kind a cheap place in Bath). If the weather to hold up, I would love to rent the bicycle and ride to neighboring villages. I am a big walker and planning on walking around Bristol (not using public transport). With me doing my day excurisions the 22-24, assume I will be OK fro the train/bus to Wells/Bath
I am not fussy food - happy with a pub as well as picking up stuff from Tesco's/Marks & Sparks for dinner...
on Xmas - 25th - I plan to take the train from Briston to Bath (I dont have my own transport); it did show that trains are still running on Xmas day.. but the rerference above... is this NOT true? I know once in London everything. And even in Lon don the Tube doesn run from 10PM/24th to 8AM on Boxing Day?!?!?
Thank you all fro your help!
Karen

NO trains, no long distance coaches, no coaches on Christmas Day - despite what Raileurope says

You will be fine with transport 22-24 but as you might expect, it could be busier (in itself) and/or more traffic on the roads, hence delays but only at the Bristol end in the evenings I suspect.
If you are fit, the cycle to Bristol to Bath is 13 miles, so you could give that a go (impossible to predict the weather). There are some fairly flat routes.
Do send me a private message if you so wish and I can go into a lot more detail for you...sending maps by e-mail etc.
Best wishes,
Martin
