We're planning a family holiday with two four year old children so low stress is a priority. Easyjet will soon be starting a new route from near us to Bristol Airport, which will save us an hour's driving time. But, there's a warning on the Easyjet website stating "...please allow extra time for your transit through the airport as space is limited at security and can become congested. This will continue until Summer 2016 where we will have upgraded our facilities to accommodate the high demand to travel from Bristol."

I don't know anything about Bristol airport: is it really that bad? Would we be better flying into Gatwick (which I know really well) and spending the extra hour in the car?

Gatwick is a nightmare...

It is about a year since I last used Bristol. No issue about arrivals, but the queue to pass security was long. Clearly this is unpleasant and will be boring for children, but will only be stressful if your flight is about to depart or you are claustrophobic. A reason to keep hand baggage to the absolute minimum, since after standing for a few minutes even a hand bag can begin to feel very heavy.

Having said this, Gatwick is likely to be worse.

I use Gatwick three or four times a year and have never had a problem however I use South Terminal which has a speedy queue for arrivals from within the British Isles and is only about ten minutes from check-in to duty free. It is two years at least since I used Bristol and it was with Ryanair and it was fine but it could just have been a slow period.

Arrivals are generally fine anywhere... the issue is going back, when the queue for security is sometimes unreasonably long.

If you are going in school holidays it does not matter where you fly from security queues will be long. Make sure you are there in good time and you will be fine.

If people were actually prepared before they got to conveyor belt queues would be much quicker it is not like the present regulations are new! Sorry rant over!
