We are two females in our seventies who will be in Oxford for a week in July. How do you suggest we get to Belgium, Netherlands or Luxembourg from Oxford NOT using the Eurostar (Oh that would be too easy!) on a Saturday. My friend is afraid to use tunnels under water (this is a sincere real fear.). I guess I could knock her out but that wouldn't be nice! Thank you for any help you may be able to provide me.

Flying would be the obvious suggestion I guess ;-)

There is a direct bus to Heathrow from Oxford..maybe 90 minutes or so.Or else Birmingham Airport is connected to Oxford by train.

Both airports have flights to those countries...Heathrow probably a wider range, but Birmingham is smaller so probably faster and less hassle...

You can also use the normal ferry between Dover and Ostende/Belgium or Calais/France.

Yes, that could be another possibility. I have a couple of months to work on this but am leaning toward Bus to Heathrow/fly to Belgium.

Thank you for your suggestions.

I think the main possibilities have been covered

One other route would be train from Oxford to Southampton Airport and fly from there - but this year at least there's only one flight a day to Belgium - to Antwerp - so not much use unless that's a place you want to visit

Another rail and and sea route would be from London - Harwich - Hook of Holland - then rail to ???? The trains do link up with the ports - unlike Dover and Calais where there are awkward bus links
