Hi,

I'm a US citizen trying very hard to relocate for awhile to the UK and finding it very hard to do so. I have recently posted something like this before but wondered what other Americans have done. I've done some extensive research on the net telling me the ways to do it. Have any of you just taken a shot in the dark and moved there, found a job, etc. I'm fully aware the work permit situation. Just curious of other situations and what results came out of it. Thanks in advance.

Following a full and helpful response you got in your previous thread, most Americans legally resident UK usually fall under one of the following categories:
Those with work permit arranged by their employers or in permit-free employment
Those married to or being a partner of a British or other EU/EEA or Swiss citizen
Dual nationality with a British parent
Students

You don't mention what industry you are working in. Are you skilled or unskilled? Have you established a career, or are just starting out? If you post a general question, you are only going to get general answers. If you answer these questions, people may be able to point you in the right direction more accurately.

I am not trying to funny or encourage anything illegal but my mate lived in USA for 9 years working and was "sent home" until that time.
If you are skilled you should find work here, although its all chance. It would be easier to get married to an English Rose of course?
You only live once..go for it

You can't do that legally - you'd have to return to the US for the work permit and if the UK authorities find you've already moved to the UK they will probably not issue the permit and probably ban you from the UK to boot.

Draft dogger eh!

Try claiming asylum! Most people do!

Alternatively marry a Canadian. Then when she is drunk, felling logs or arm wreastling bears (or whatever Canadian women do on their wedding night); slip of to the UK on a WHV!
