West Norway during Easter break, tips needed!

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway

Heisan,

We (me & wife) have been living in Oslo since September. We think that PÄske is the first opportunity of us to witness the great Western Norway, is that?

I have a small car with the winter tires deliberately on. I have the 5 days off, from thursday t.o.m. monday. If the weather is ok (5-10 C, no rain) we wanna drive towards Bergen and/or Stavanger. Given the weather conditions in March, I believe that the mountains are passable, isn't it? Do you recommend such a trip? Would it be nice to see fjords now (Geiranger, hardanger, eid...)? What about Preikostolen, too windy?

Any recommendation is welcome, also about places to stay. I would love to learn about small guesthouses/hostels/cabins in the countryside where it is very calm and rather cheap to stay.

The trip itself (Oslo-Bergen) is nice but I've never done it this time of year. As for accommodation, I'd imagine a lot of things are already booked for the holidays so if you do want to make the trip, decide where you want to spend the night and make bookings RIGHT NOW.
