Summer care/activities for children in Oslo

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway

Hello! I'll be in Oslo this summer for a graduate course and internship and I'm looking for activities and child care for my daughter, age 8. We don't speak Norwegian, but she is keen to learn! Any ideas are welcome.

Don't really know about child care outfits since it's been some twenty years since I lived in Oslo but the sports clubs used to run summer 'schools'- football, handball, athlethics etc for children, you could try to contact Bækkelaget sportsklub http://www.bekkelagets.no/p/6539/kontakt-oss , they are a major club in Oslo, amongst other things they organize Norway cup, a very large football tournament for children. I suppose they'll at least have some contacts to other clubs if they're not organizing anything themselves.
The Oslo chapter of the norwegian trekkers association http://www.dntoslo.no/ have quite a lot of activities, typically 4-5 days long, during the summer aimed at children and parents- if you can find enough time off this would be a very nice experience. Shorter activities are often announced on their website.
Bathing (with a responsible caretaker!) is popular at Frognerbadet and Huk among others.
My children have loved to visit the science museum http://www.tekniskmuseum.no as they often have a lot of displays made for children to toy with.
Perhaps the university http://www.uio.no/ or Oslo municipality http://www.oslo.kommune.no/ have some activities and services for foreign families as well.
