Norway- Best Way to Travel?

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway

Hi all,

I am going to Norway at the end of August and would like to get to the fjords and glaciers without taking a cruise. Does anyone know:

1) The best way to travel (train, plane, bus), or
2) The names of some good, mid-price nature lodges near or in national parks?

Thanks,

AR

1) Train is OK as entry to western fjords (Bergen, Voss, Flåm), but there is no rail network around the fjords (get a good map and you understand why). If you don't have a car, you better take the bus or passanger boat around the fjords.

2) Hmm, difficult question. You need to be specific as there large and several national parks in this region, and a large number of lodges and hotels.

Thanks for the reply, Oslo Viking. I will definitely check out that site.

If it helps, for this portion of the trip I am going to be traveling a bit with my mother, so we want a lodge with a good view and a suitable location for day trips. Other than that, we are very flexible.

Best,

AR

For good offers perhaps rent a cabin or summer house for a few days. The typical lodges are several hours hiking into the mountains.
