Hi all,

I am planning to head to Northern Norway and Northern Sweden in late Feb/early Mar 2012. I have typed out the draft itinerary below. I would appreciate it if any one has any tips or comments on it, such as activities and sights in the area. I would really love to catch the Northern Lights, and would probably take some bus tours out for this. I have tried dogsledding in Canada before so I might save the money on that activity this time. Thanks a lot in advance all!

Thu 23 Feb - Flight from Singapore to Oslo, Flight from Oslo to Kirkenes, Overnight at Kirkenes
Fri 24 Feb - Kirkenes (anything to do here?)
Sat 25 Feb - Hurtigruten from Kirkenes to Svolvaer (Lofoten Islands)
Sun 26 Feb - On Hurtigruten (can I catch the Northern Lights on the cruise?)
Mon 27 Feb - Arrive Svolvaer
Tue 28 Feb - Svolvaer
Wed 29 Feb - Bus from Svolvaer to Narvik, Train from Narvik to Abisko Mountain Station, Overnight at Abisko
Thu 1 Mar - Abisko (Aurora Sky Station?)
Fri 2 Mar - Abisko (anything else to do here?)
Sat 3 Mar - Train from Abisko to Kiruna, Transfer from Kiruna to Icehotel, Overnight at Icehotel
Sun 4 Mar - Icehotel (perhaps a snowmobile Northern Lights tour?)
Mon 5 Mar - Transfer from Icehotel to Kiruna, Train from Kiruna to Stockholm, Overnight on Sleeper Train
Tue 6 Mar - Arrive Stockholm
Wed 7 Mar - Stockholm
Thu 8 Mar - Train from Stockholm to Oslo, Overnight at Oslo
Fri 9 Mar - Oslo
Sat 10 Mar - Flight from Oslo to Singapore
Sun 11 Mar - Arrive Singapore

Cheers,
Cody

By the way, I would be going on this trip alone. Also, any recommendations on where I could stay? I know some places only have hotels, which would be rather costly, but I guess I wouldn't have much of a choice?

Well, if you haven't been in Stockholm before, you have to see the VASA museum. It's the most amazing museum! :)

There are dogsledding, king crab, snowmobile activities out of Kirkenes. However, I strongly suggest not doing the Hurtigruten the whole way down the coast. You will probably be bored out of your mind... I would instead fly in to Tromso and then take the Hurtigruten from there which will probably be more than enough boat trip. This will then allow you to go down to Reine in the Lofotens which should definately not be missed.
