is it safe ? has any of you done it ? any tips ? do you have to wait a lot ?

Hi Delara,

Yes, hitch hiking is pretty safe in Iceland. I have done it quite a bit and never had any problems. Waiting can be a bummer on the lesser travelled routes especially if it is raining. But bring your rain-gear with and you'll be OK. It is a great way of meeting the locals. There is increasing liklyhood that you might be picked up by a foreign traveller in a rental car. Apparently there are 5000 rental cars on the road each day this summer. Stefan
