Help with Norway Iten!

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Norway

We will have 6 full days in Norway. I need iten help! It will be myself wife and 2 grandsons! We will be flying in from CPH. WE want to see the beautiful vistas, fjords, northern lights, glaciers, etc. No camping or long strenuous hikes. Where should we visit in our short time and what are some fun activities for us all to do?

Take a map - look at the distances (I mean Northers Light means going FAR up north -and waiting for days or weeks) - the fjords you are think at are in the Southwest - this is next to impossible (or you will be spoending most of the time in planes).

Not much fun of glaciers in the winter when the glacier are covered by snow like the area around.

Again WHEN: in January it is dark nearly 24 hour up north . not much fun on clody days and night with no chance for NL? In March there is 12 hours daylight and you can go ontours up in the far north.

WE will go in early or mid may depending on which is more desirable

In that case, forget Northern Lights, you can't see them unless it is properly dark, which it mostly isn't April-August.

The rest of what you want to see is concentrated in west Norway, for which the convenient starting point is most easily Bergen. Should be a direct flight from CPH to Bergen.

To see a glacier you need to go on a trip to Jostedalsbreen national park, which is quite some distance away, but plenty of opportunity to see fjords and nice scenery on the way.

I'm not you so I can't guess what's fun in your eyes. Suggest you look at some guidebooks or on-line tourist resources to get an idea of your options.

Why fly when you could take a ferry Cph-Oslo daily?

True probably more expensive but you get to see something on the way, particularly coming up Oslofjord.

Why fly when you could take a ferry Cph-Oslo daily?

Because the practical way to get from Oslo to Bergen is on an aircraft, when the surface transport alternatives take all day? Though if you enjoy slow surface transport, you may enjoy taking the train, as it is also a scenic journey. Indeed quite a few people would deliberately arrive in Oslo because they want to take the train to Bergen.

coming up Oslofjord.

Though it isn't a fjord in the sense that most foreigners or geologists would use the word.
