First, the ferry to Visby... I will be coming up from Oskarshamn, and then leaving Visby to Stockholm via Nynäshamn.
Do I need to book the ferry in advance? If so, how far is necessary for mid-August? Because I am travelling by bike, I am hoping to either book as late as possible or buy my ticket the day I want to go, keeping my schedule as flexible as possible.
Second, the Stockholm ferry to Helsinki. Same questions as before: is booking in advance necessary? In this case, I would probably be going on either a Tuesday or Wednesday (aiming for August 21 or 22). Any experiences in just rolling up on your bike and grabbing a ticket? Is it possible to get a cabin at such late notice, or will I be sleeping with the drunks?
