Day-to-day hotel accommodations

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Iceland

Hi--I'm traveling to Iceland at the beginning of September and was planning on doing a day-to-day road trip around the western part of the country. I was wondering if anyone might have any input as to whether or not it would be reasonable to try and book a hotel/accommodations day-to-day. Rather than be constrained by having to be at a certain hotel every night, I was hoping to provide a little more flexibility so I can adjust my schedule depending on which areas I want to spend more or less time in once I've been to them. Is it reasonable to expect that I can find accommodations, or might it be difficult? I'm pretty flexible as far as type of accommodations--totally fine w/ lower end ones, but also able to afford more pricey places if need be.
