Conditions on Kebnekaise and Kungsleden mid-June ?Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Sweden
Does anyone know whether it will be possible to climb Kebnekaise around June 18 ? And what about the Kungsleden trail, is there still a lot of snow and will it be nostly free of snow by mid-June ? Thank you.
It's always possible to climb Kebnekaise - even in the winter. However - there will be snow left in mid-June but it's normally not a problem as the snow by then is packed and easy to walk on. | 1
Kungsleden should be mostly, if not completely, free of snow in mid-June. Conditions on Kebnekaise can change dramatically from day to day, so even if it's possible to climb, if you're unlucky you won't be able to see anything. I hiked Kungsleden and Kebnekaise last July, and was able to hike to the top of Kebnekaise with sun and a high of 5 C (a really beautiful day, because it was raining every day, and even snowing the day prior). I met a man at the Kebnekaise mountain station who had tried to summit 2 days prior to me, and he had to turn back half-way due to poor visibility. Two weeks after I went to Kebne, some friends of mine didn't have any luck with going to the top either. So if you're really keen on summiting Kebnekaise, it might be best to schedule a few days in case of bad weather. I blogged about it here: | 2
