clothes advice

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Iceland

Hi

We're coming to Iceland next week, staying in Reykavik and then travelling along as far as the Jokulsarlon lagoon. I have a few questions I need some help with!

  1. Clothes - how warm a jacket do we need? Is a winter puffer jacket necessary or could we wear a waterproof and layers? We'll only be doing short hikes.

  2. How long does it take to drive roughly from the Gerdi guesthouse to Reykavik?

  3. Have been alarmed by the recent car hire stories. We've booked with Atak, who have been great so far. Will report back about them when we return!

Thanks!

Expect 10-15°C daytime - or warmer. DO not know what that translates into og named types of jackets - could be a rainproof + a fleece?

For me the RAINPROOF would be the most important advise! (and sturdy shoes/boots - not sneakers - not good if wet).
If you are only staying one week you can get some weaterforecast for most of the periond the day before leaving home (on any weater homepage - BBC or CNN if your own countrys Weater Institute does not have the whole world-forecasts on their homepage)

Definitely go with the waterproof and layer. We had waterproof jackets and pants and used them both. Then peeled when the weather cleared
