Banking in Iceland

Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Iceland

Has anyone heard whether or not people who have money in Icelandic banks can do foreign transfers?

Thanks,

There are conflicting reports on that. It seems that some transfers are getting "lost" somewhere in the computer systems, while others seem to be getting through.

I have money in Kaupthing and I can't do any international transactions whatsoever. At least not through Online banking.

Anyone who knows what's happening to Kaupthing?

Thanks blazius, but do you, or anyone, know what's happened since the government has taken the control? Are they re-opening it as with Landsbanki?

I bank with Glitnir and have received word that I can do an international transfer. But, all transfers are to be approved by the Central Bank. They (Glitnir) sent me an application to fax back and then they will submit it to the Central Bank. I haven't done this yet as the exchange rate is so unfavorable....
