Arriving late at Keflavik...

We, a couple from Switzerland, will visit Iceland starting Monday, 19th of July for 3 weeks and we are already quite excited :)

My question is: Arriving late at Keflavik...and not really sure what to do....

We are Couchsurfers, thought about trying it in Iceland, but arrving around 24:00 we don't think it is nice to knock at somebodys door THAT late.

Does anybody of you have experience with Motel / Camping Alex in Keflavik? We carry our own tent, so that would be an option.

Or does anybody have another idea where to stay this first night?

lol a couple from Switzerland visiting Iceland ...how neat! And so are both countries...but Iceland is not as dynamic and the mountains are small, it has more of the Scandinavian atmosphere....perhaps a little similiar but more slow than Swiss German, but certainly not like the Swiss French atmosphere ..

Just ask the people at your couchsurfing flat if you can arrive in the middle of the night. I think people who open their houses for coachsurfers are generally easy going and should be willing to wake up in the middle of the night to let you in.
I would try to skip staying in Keflavik, you have to get yourself there and then to Reykjavik, it is a hassle.

Take the FlyBus to Reykjavik campsite (or any other place in Reykjavik) - this is a direct route. When you pass the gate and enter arrival hall - look to the right and you'll see their booth and FlyBus yellow/blue logo. Here is the picture (FlyBus stand is behind right column and the bus just outside next to the exit)

Come there and say where you need to go (you can simply show the place on the map). You might have to talk to bus driver as you arrive that late. And you can pay for your trip right there and with a card - so this is one minute matter. Then enjoy the ride :-)

OK, i think we'll take the Bus to this Reykjavik camping...seems to be a good place there.

Do you know if we have to take flybus or flybus? There exist 2 lines i've noticed...and the one costs extra.

You'll need flybus plus cause "simple" flybus will bring you to the Central Bus Station (aka BSI).
That's why I said "say where you need to go (you can simply show the place on the map)". Then bus driver will take care you'll get where you want to get (he also takes care you pay what you have to pay ...yes).

But you can save 4 bucks each and walk from BSI to the campsite. It's about 3.5 km so you might consider it as city tour :-)

It's not really a walk one would do for pleasure, there's nothing much of interest on the way.

Well people might want to do the walk for money, right? :)))))

On the other hand - this is absolutely new and very different town...different air...
I just gave a suggestion.
But if their hosts are Ok with middle night arrival - then all they need would be the address and taxi from BSI as most easiest way to get to the beds...

PS. Taxi drivers speak English and except cards.

Yes I stayed at Alex because I had an early morning flight out. It's a good solution for you.
