Hi,
I'm heading to Iceland next week (25th- 30th Nov) and was wondering if anyone could tell me what the chances are of seeing the Northern Lights. Are there any websites which track aurora activity? Also, is it possible to see anything from Reykjavik or would I have to join a tour or something which takes me outside of the city?

tells you that activity is really low at present.

Weather forecast seems to make Norther Lights or not unimportant as it looks as it will be very cloudy (most chances of moments of clear skies in the eastern part.)
Western part (reykjavik and surroundings) and south will also have extensive rain!

That weater forecast did not cover last half of next week - and if you chose a weather frorecast that DOES include 7-8 days: DO NOT TRUST the forecast for that long into the future.

My husband and I just got back from Iceland. 11/23 - 11/27/08. In spite of clear skys the first 3 nights of our stay we did not see the Northern Lights. The clerk at the hotel told us the Solar activity had been low and they had not seen the lights in 10 days.
I hope you have better luck.

Any chance of see the Northern Lights next week? Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Iceland
