2 Free Days in Sweden, where to go?Country forums / Scandinavia & the Nordics / Sweden
Hello, I'll be in Sweden for about a week touring about with a friend in June. He's got a wedding to go to which means I'll have 2-3 days to explore on my own. I was hoping to get advice on where to go for those 2-3 days! Well be in Uppsala and Stockholm for most of the trip and I'd love to see a bit more than that. I've been thinking about Gotland, but have also been recommended to Göteburg or even the far north for the wild areas. I'm a photographer and we'll have been coming from traveling around Ireland for a week. I'd love to stay someplace for 1-2 nights and explore! I won't have a car, and will be relying on the train and public transportation to get me wherever I'm going, so ideally I'll just be walking or renting a bike. Does anyone have any recommendations? Any opinions? Thanks so much for any help. :) Cheers.
I can promise you that Stockholm will keep you entertained for 2-3 days. If you start travelling places you'll just lose a lot of time in transit. Gotland and the North take half a day to get to in total, even if you fly. Stockholm is very beautiful, lies spread over several islands on the water, and was not destroyed during the war (although the very core of the city was ripped out by crazy town planners in the 60s for the benefit of a "modern" plaza etc). I recommend Skansen and Djurgården (Google it), the Old Town, and a tour by boat to the archipelago. All of this gives you fabulous photo opportunities. If you want to go to Gotland or the North, do it separately some other time when you have more time. You'll find that it's very convenient to travel in Sweden as everyone can speak English and don't mind doing it. There are tourist information centres available that will not mind helping with advice on getting around, based on your budget. Just ask the hotel or your friends where the offices are. | 1
I suggest that you come and visit southern Sweden where I live. More specific to Karlskrona. I have a blog with tons of pics and info about Sweden, particularly Karlskrona. You are welcome to check it out if you want to. The URL is: My Life in Sweden :-) Take care, | 2
