Hey all,
Me and some friends are going to be in Stockholm for 2 and a half days - a saturday afternoon, all day sunday and all day monday in the beginning of october. I was wondering whether anybody could give advice about what to do and see and eat and drink and where to stay and things like that?
Thanks!!

Hello wanderingways, welcome to Thorn Tree,

I hope you don't mind me saying this, but basic information like what you're looking for is available anywhere on the internet. If you're looking for specific things to see/do, places to eat etc., feel free to let us know.
Also, how much are you willing to spend (in SEK) for your hotel, and do you have any special requirements regarding your accommodation (shared bathroom or ensuite, close to the center and therefore relatively expensive or rather further away but cheaper etc.)?

Agree with Aribo.
Plus it would help if you told us your interests, that way you will receive replies that are more relevant.

The most interesting and beautiful part of Stockholm is the old city IMHO.

Just check my photo series from autumn of 2008:

October can be tricky weather-wise, hope you've in for a good period.

Ps the rest of the city ain't half bad either, actually really nice:

My own favourite is the Vasa.

Otherwise naturally the Old town (Gamla Stan).

In general walking along the water and enjoying the views, for example Vasterbron (T-bana Hornstull).

One of the better ways to see Stockholm is from the water, there are round trips from close to Stadshuset in different languages. Or you could take the boat to Drottningholm from the same place and see the unique theater (World Heritage site), with original 18th century special effects (thunder and wind).

Alkohol is generally quite expensive compared to other countries.

Thanks everyone for replying! As far as accommodation goes, ideally the cheapest and most central possible? I have found some places on hostelworld.com that are around the 25-30 euro per night price range, which look pretty central.

We are all quite interested by history and museums, but also the quirky off-the-beaten-track type things that give a city something extra special. We are coming from Paris, and here everything is closed on a sunday - is it the same in Stockholm?
Also we would quite like to try a smorgasbord, are there any places you could recommend for this?
Thanks again!

Banks and such are closed on sundays in Sweden, most of them on saturdays too,
but many shops etc are open on sundays. Open hours are often reduced though,
i e 10 to 16 rather than 9 to 18.

What about sightseeing or museums etc...Are they open on a Sunday afternoon?

It seems that most of them are open. My personal experience is that museums often are closed Mondays. But now when I check most museums say that they are open every day in July and August.
