Hi, just realised we will be flying out of Skarvasta airport! This changes things. I suppose we'll have to leave the city centre at about 5pm. Would still love some suggestions though! Thanks.

Well, as one day isn't an awful lot of time, I would recommend heading for the old part of town and wandering around there.

From 9am to 8pm betwen your flights, as you mentioned in your other post, you'll have 6 hrs for sighseeing in Stockholm.
Bus trip from Skavsta is 1 hr 20 min one way.
You can buy bus tickets on line at flygbussarna.se.

In Stockholm, take a walk from Cityterminalen, whereyou'll arrive by bus, towards Old town. You can either go on sightseeing tour by bus, or a boat from Nybroplan. Alternatively, just take a walk from Slussen, through old town and to Skeppsholmen, Strandvägen, Djurgårdsbron.

It's possible to purchase flybus tickets online which is cheaper at SEK 238 return and 119 single. It's a fairly good fare given the 100km distance (either way). Once you are in Stockholm it's not far to the Old Town, Slussen area, the CBD etc, while the Djurgården (park, museums) is a bit further. If you like walking a good route could be bus terminal-Old Town, ferry boat to Djurgården (from the southeastern edge of the Old Town ie close to Slussen) then walk back via Strandvägen rd and the CBD to the bus terminal, perhaps 5 km in total.
