Thanks for the replies all! Lots to think about. Definitely going to take the train; as one post said, it will be exotic to a non-Swede such as myself :-)

As a reply to #5: Oh, yes, we do talk to others on the train, but what we DON'T appreciate is the American approach of talking about me-myself-I-my family-the US-bla bla bla..... If you're genuinely interested in Sweden and have questions I don't think you will have much trouble to find someone to talk to. Maybe not your seat neighbour but certainly someone nearby.
As for the scenery being boring, I've been on the TransSiberian Express in winter and I found the landscape beautiful! Decide for yourself, don't let others tell you it's not scenic!

#17: So, yeah, no swede will start talking to you, because the unwritten rule is to leave your fellow passengers alone. But you can ask questions about Sweden.
In USA it's the reverse, there you HAVE to chit-chat with your seat neighbour if you are on an inter-city transportation. I don't know if you are so clear about exactly what they are talking about, though, maybe you shouldn't have written that bla-bla-bla thing.
the name of the country is Danmark - have never realized why "e" is better than "a" for
English speaking ppl. - they do not say Berbedos insteak of Barbados :-)
thank you Bjoern for the incredibly insigtful analysis how non-Danes misspell the name of Denmark.
I suppose you don't experience the same bleary-eyed amazement when you call Deutchland Tyskland? or Espana Spanien? or Italia Italien? How about Ungarn for Hungary, whose correct name for the natives is Magyarorszag....
