Hey Everyone,

So, I'll be venturing across the pond from the U.S. to study at Linnaeus University in Kalmar, Sweden from August 23rd till January 15th. I'm bringing a blackberry bold 9650 with me and plan on just purchasing a local SIM to stay in touch with everyone that I meet. My question is, does Telenor, Telia, or 3 offer mobile data services on a prepaid/pay-as-you-go basis or am I plain out of luck?

I've tried finding the information online but it simply isn't out there. Thanks so much in advance for the advice and help.

Happy Travels!

Matt

To get a straight answer I suggest you contact Comviq by filling in this form. Comviq is one of the biggest operators in Sweden, and cheap.
Comviq

My guess reply would be yes of course.

YES.
The big ones:
Telia: http://www.telia.se/privat/produkter_tjanster/mobilt/kontantkort/ 0.5 GB at "full" (low) speed/month
Company "3" - big one: http://www.telia.se/privat/produkter_tjanster/mobilt/kontantkort/ better speed - don't know the limit for "free surf".
Tele2/Comvic http://www.tele2.se/mobilabonnemang/kontantkort.html
Telenor https://butik.telenor.se/prepaid/

Since you are staying less tha n 180 dyas you cannot get a "personnummer = you cannot get anything but prepaid.
Hope that a Blackberry (not popular in Europe) can hook up on WiFi-net. (i.e. at university etc:)

Comviq Prepaid, in Tele2 network. If you top up 75kr or more: free calls and texts to all Tele2 and Comviq numbers for 30 days. https://comviq.se/mobiltelefoni_prisplaner.aspx

Internet use for mobile is charged 3kr per day for those days you use it. Max 100MB per day applies. No tethering. That costs 219kr / month (5 GB limit / month) so you are better off using the internet from your student housing and university. If you specifically want mobile internet, Telenor has prepaid mobile internet 289kr / month with no download limits.

I hope this helps. We are giving out these SIM-cards to our international students when they arrive and they seem to have been happy.

Three definitely do prepaid mobile internet. They even gave me a sim card without me having to put down any money at the register; I walked into the shop, and left five minutes later with the sim card, and then I topped it up with money on their website.

The card worked fine both in my phone for mobile browsing, and also tethered to my laptop, and in my 3g usb modem as well.

As far as I know, Three has a download cap. You may check out more options on this guide: Link Prepaid Sweden

I'm pretty sure that they all have a download cap; Three's was actually quite generous, compared to what we get in Australia.
