Hello,

I am considering a weeks beach holiday somewhere easy to get to from Goteburg, Sweden. Does anyone know any good plaves to stay- somewhere scenic, a bit lively but not too touristy or commercial.....near a beach? Is it too ambitious to be planning a beach holiday in June or likely ok? I saw the average temp is 20. Also does anyone know a good cheap, hostel for my friend and I to stay in, somewhere with a bit of character for some 30 somethings who want to relax and socialise a bit too?

How expensive might Sweden be for a brit? Is it steep or ok ish?

cheers,
Claire

The Pound is cheaper now here than it has been for many years.

Falkenberg has a good beach called Skrea Strand. It is 100 km from Gothenburg.
Varberg beach is also quite good. It is 75 km from Gothenburg. There go trains between Gothenburg and these two places and you also reach them very fast by car.

You can never predict the weather but I would say that planning a beach holiday in the beginning of June is optimistic.

There are several camping places by the beach just outside Göteborg. One place with a youth hostel (in the Swedish section they mention it) as well is: http://www.liseberg.com/en/home/Accommodation/Camping/Lisebergs-Camping-Askim-Strand/ If you are four people a cabin is great value. There's a bus to the city.

Eating and drinking out, expensive for Brit's, but often lunch buffet menus are good value. Food to prepare yourself from supermarkets can be much the same price as U.K. although the range of vegetables outside of large towns can be limited. Not too many beaches north of Gothenburg, but who needs beaches when you can sunbathe and swim straight off the pink granite rocks of Bohuslän. Many camping sites have little wooden cabins with 2 or 4 beds, simple cooking facilities and with any luck, good weather means bbq outside anyway. Good luck with your week's holiday. We look forward to hearing how it goes.

If camping and a great beach (best in Sweden): Go to Mellbystrand (3 km) from Laholm railway station - but the last bit. BOOK space for the tent. Hostels both at Mellbystrand and in Laholm.
