Hello!

This summer, I'm attending a Lions summer camp which involves a one-week host family stay near Östersund, Sweden. I already booked my flight from Amsterdam to Stockholm, but now I don't quite know how to get to Östersund. Maybe you can help me choose the best option? (Since I'm not 18 yet, hiring a car is not an option).

  • I arrive at Stockholm Arlanda at 12.15. There's a train to Östersund departing 12.48. Yeah, that's 33 minutes... Does anyone know if it would be possible to catch that train?
  • There's another train going to Östersund later that day, but it will arrive 22.20 which is a bit too late, plus I'll have to spend many hours at the airport.
  • Option three is to take a SAS operated flight to Östersund airport which departs 18.00 and arrives 19.00. Again, that's a long time of waiting.
  • Another option?

Thanks for your advice,
Amanda

No, it is out of the question. Transport between Arlanda and Stockholm train station is at its fastest 20 min. That is the actual time Arlanda Express takes. And you have immigration, customs and some walking distance. If you had had an hour more I would have given you a chance, but not with just over half an hour.

I checked on buses but it seems they still have not fed all info into the database their website needs to figure things out.
It looks as if it has only one bus, leaving at 1030.

If you take the flight you will most likely spend an awfully long time at the airport.

I suggest you take the airport bus to the city and spend the day in Stockholm. Then take the later train to Östersund. 22.20 is still broad daylight in Östersund in the summer. It will not feel that late.

Or contact Lions well before to find out if some trusted person is driving Stockholm - Östersund that day.

You don't have to go to Stockholm as the train leaves from Arlanda Airport and travels north. On 22 July there's a direct train leaving Arlanda 16:48 arriving in Östersund 22:20. If you book now it costs 307 kronor in 2nd class or 358 kronor in 1st class at www.sj.se
