Just a quick heads up: This week we're seeing some pretty heavy flooding in the western parts of norway, with closed and destroyed bridges, washed away houses and some evacuations. No persons reported injuried as of yet, and we hope it will remain so. Aside from news and radio (who for the most is in norwegian) there are some web resources that can help you in determining if your travel destination or route is affected:
First of all the weather service
Then there's the traffic information on…
Hi,
Thinking about Svalbard in January.. Anyone with experience of the Polar Night and is it worth seeing? Looks like I would be travelling alone as can't get any one to try this adventure. There is some hours of twilight as far as I know, hopefully with snow reflections etc it would be brighter..
Anyway.. If any one has any experience let me know :)
flights look affordable.but would this be a really silly time to spend a week in scandanavia-Norway or finland?
all ideas and suggestions welcome
Hi, I would like to experience the cold (yes) and darkness of Norway inwinter from a tent. But I don't want to go much further from Oslo. Only surrounding regions that have sea (beach area preferably that is) and some hiking/walking and wild camping opportunities. maybe a village nearby Oslo that is safe and not known by city people?
is there a winter open camping in oslofjord? I didn't find any on a google search online. I know plenty of winter open campings in the arctic of Norway but I…
Hi,
I'm looking to travel alone to Norway the last week of October and am looking to basically go spend a few days somewhere in middle of nowhere, alone. Can anyone recommend a hotel or small town? Just where I can stay in a cabin or something and just see very few people and talk to basically no one! It's a bit weird but am so burnt out - need to get some silence and nature.
ETA: Am happy to branch out to Finland or other surrounding countries. Just looking for nature + no people. Thanks.
When you think of hiking in Norway, chances are you're thinking of mountains and highlands in the summer and fall. You might be missing out on something, restricting yourselves to those seasons and areas. Below I'll list some of my favorites and a couple of web resources that might prove handy. I'll not go into skiing and snowshoeing in winter, other than to say that it's possible well nigh everywhere at all levels of difficulties and lenght.
For a nice and different winter hike I warmly…
Hi,
I am planning to visit Norway during the end of october..... i want to ask if it is ok to plan the visit this time of year as i have been told that it is mostly rainy at this time.... i am looking to explore fjords, trolltunga, pulpit rock and also how many days will be good to cover these destinations.... Anyone has any idea??
So myself, my brother, sister and cousin are planning a trip to Norway this May, and as the subject says, we've got 12 (ok, so actually maybe more like 11.5) days to spend there. We're flying in and out of Oslo, but outside of that we don't have any set plans. We're 29, 25, 25 and 20, we all like to eat and hike and bike ride. We're interested in history and culture, but we'd like to spend some time outside exploring as well. I should also mention that my brother and I really love stave churches…
Hi
We are visiting Oslo this December for Christmas. I just notice that the hop on hop off bus is not available on December. Is there anything similar?
We are staying at Scandic Byporten hotel and would like to have some time visiting the Viking, kon-tiki and technology museum. How can we get there by public transport?
Thanks in advance.
We've just finished a time lapse of Norwegian Scenery. The route included Rondane, Geiranger, Stryn, Sognefjord, Hardanger, Haugesund, Odda, Flaam, Ulvik, Jotunheimen, Hallingdal and Buskerud.
Let me know if you have any questions about our route etc!
