I am about to take a trip to Norway and take a Hurtigrunten cruise.
My question is how does the tipping system work in Norway in general as well as on a cruise.
Does one tip in the restaurants, hotels, etc. as in the US ?
Does one tip the staff in a cruise ?
How much and when (re the cruise) should one tip ?

Has anyone come across a bus timetable for Lofoten? I am planning a trip for next year, hoping to travel around from Svolvaer to A.........without a car. I cannot read Norwegian so an English one would be great, just to get an idea of where the buses actually go to and from, and the times....

I've been trying to book a bus to travel from Narvik to Fauske in January, and it doesn't seem to be possible... I've found on a few websites (raildude and 177 Nordland) that there is indeed a bus service that leaves Narvik at 16:10 and arrives in Fauske at 21:25, which costs 250 kruner (bus 23-720).
However, none of these sites allow me to reserve tickets, and the Nor-Way Bussekspress site does not have this bus route, or even these towns when i search. How can I book a seat for the…
Hi We are visiting Tromso in February 2013 primarily to hopefully see the Northern Lights but would like to be active during the day and would like to do snowshoeing and or hiking. What I need to find out is there suitable areas to do these things around Tromso island or do we need to go further afield and if so can you use public transport. It would be great if anyone could give me any appropriate guidance. Thank you
Is Tromso a good place to see northern light in mid February comparing to Inari in Finland and Abisko in Sweden?
Tromso is near the coast, it might be cloudy or even rainy, some ppl said it's better go to inland (like Inari, Abisko, Kiruna), anyone has any suggestions?
From Tromso, Abisko, Kiruna, Abisko, anyone can give me a rank of the probability of seeing aurora in mid February?
I only have six days, so probably can only go to two places, and we will take public transport.

Hi. I have 24 hours in the Leknes area next March before I meet my travel companions. Leknes doesn't sound very interesting - so thinking about either staying in Stamsund or Ballstad. Can anyone recommend one over the other? One consideration is whether there are any restaurants open that early in the season .... suggestions about where to stay and what to do for 24hrs would be gratefully received.

I am doing the planning/booking for a trip to Norway in August 2013 for my husband, who is of Norwegian ancestry, and myself. I'm seeking advice on the most efficient itinerary to incorporate all of these destinations, which are important to him:
1) Oslo
2) The Oslo-Bergen Railway
3) Bergen
4) Geirangerfjord--ferry journeydown the fjord.
5) Heddal Stave Church
6) Jotunheimen National Park (hike)
Any advice, including hotel recommendations, welcome. We are hoping to stay around 900 Nkr per night…
