Hi,
My boyfriend and I are going to Norway for three days next week-end. We've already been to Oslo so we want to spend three days out discovering the fjords and see the Norwegian landscapes.
We were thinking of going to Bergen, maybe stay one night, and do a fjord cruise from Bergen. We wanted to go Flam but the NSB website says that due to floods the train to Flam is closed... We're not sure about Bergen as it seems like a bit city and our plan was to spend maybe on or two nights in a cozy and nice B&B and wake up somewhere magnificient.
Any suggestions on a two days trip from Oslo? Also, we're not afraid of transport. It's actually the best way to discover amazing landscapes and see the country.
Thanks for your help
B

I think Bergen sounds like a good plan, since it is not really the season for outdore exploring.
The train from Oslo to Bergen is surpossed to be very scenic, you can see the whole trip on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EccB4sYYM9M
Bergen also has some nice historic neghbourhoods, but be aware that it rains A LOT.

You'll have to check if it is possible in your timeframe (check the timetables!), but if you like transport and seeing the fjords might I suggest the following route: Get out of Oslo asap on the Bergen train. Arrive in Bergen, find a B'n B, take the morning speed ferry to Haugesund, sightsee there for the day and take the night bus Haukeliekspressen back to Oslo. Or day bus- but then you'll only have a few hours in Haugesund, the bus leaves about 1300, think the boat is there about 11 00 (leaves 0800 from Bergen)

Oops. Just discovered the ferry has been replaced by a bus route. However there is a few ferry routes and fjord cruises out of Bergen still. There is also the possibility of taking the day bus Oslo-Haugesund over Haukeli, taking the ferry to Stavanger the next day and taking the night train back to Oslo. Again: Check timetables!

The 'Hurtigruten' cruise leaves from Bergen every early evening, it does not go via any fjords but the sea, but perhaps a day train trip to Oslo to Bergan, a ride on the 'Hurigruden' cruise on that evening and the next day to some place north, and then bus it back to Oslo?

I don't know if this would fit into your time frame, and what your expectations are, but it might be fun to have a play around with it a see if it does.

Sounds like you have not really looked at time frames the train from Oslo to Bergen takes 8 hours so I would suggest in a three day which i suspect is probably less then 72 hours to have 16 hours of train travel is a waste of time. Whilst the train service is generally good it is not so frequent. Especially at this time of year as you are unlikely to see much due to cloud and lack of daylight hours. Which airport are you flying into?

I would stay in Oslo perhaps see the Oslo fjord or head to Holmenkollen or Nordmaka forest for a nice walk.

I would go to Stavanger, they have a huge annual street art festival with many international artists and the town now is so colourful! plus the nature nearby is stunning, check Kjerag Mountain :-) but maybe planning to spend 1 night there, to don't rush too much...

@richiavo What I read about the Oslo-Bergen train is that it's more about the journey than the destination itself - though Bergen is supposed to be stunningly beautiful. And having checked the train timetables before, there are 4 trains per day, which actually makes it feasible for a three-day trip.

To get a view of the most stunning part of the train ride (the mountains) you'll have to take the morning train. Night has fallen at 1700 now.
