All booked and looking forward to it. Incidentally, for anyone else reading this thread for info, it appears that both train and ferry tickets are fully refundable if cancelled at least 24 hours before departure time.

To finish this thread, I have returned from Norway and met many people doing the same route - some of which originally had similar questions to myself. The journey is absolutely incredible and well worth the cost (from £140 if booked in advance) for 15 fantastic hours I will never forget - not least because I couldn't help but take hundreds of photos.
