Hi all.

I'm planning a roadtrip through Norway this summer. I know that it is a biiig country - I have been there a lot of times (I'm from Denmark), but I really dream of going from Denmark to the far north of Norway.

I have my own car and a great telt (and my dog who is going to come with me), so I'm planning on mostely wildcamping throughout the journey - being the cheapest option plus I love camping.

I have vacation from late May to the first of september, and my only plans are this trip.

Is it possible? What should I be ready for? Do you have any advice for me?

That leaves you ample of time to get immersed rather than just a taste of.
First off I'd reccomend you to speed up north through Sweden and Finland (loooong stretches of spruce and pine and rulerstraight roads) which gets you up north quite fast. You'll arrive in Finnmark along with the winters last gasps and probably experience the extremely intense spring (a friend living in Alta commented it a bit exaggerated: "You go from half a meter of snow to full summer with 26C, shorts and pilsners in six hours!"). Be prepared for spells of bad weather (also snow on the passes) clotheswise and with respect to your car. From east Finnmark you should find your own way amid small regional roads, perhaps hug the coast as you tread west and southwards. There is a ton of things to see on your way, you'd better find some maps and explore them first.
A heads up concerning your dog: I'm pretty certain there are some vetinary formalities and tests you'll have to go through before laying out on the tour- check with 'mattilsynet'.

Don't miss Vesterålen, stunningly beautiful and less tourists than in Lofoten. Whale watching in Andenes and Puffin Safari from Bleik.

Sommarøy (in Troms) should also be considered, for the stunning beaches alone.

Thank you for the suggestions, guys.

Do you know somewhere online where I can buy maps for Norway and Sweden?

Isn't there a bookstore near Copenhagen uni. that specialises in maps? Think you can find what you need there. There's always online maps (google maps, misc. route planners, ut.no for trekking). One map and info book that might come very handy in Norway is the road association (NAF, naf.no Veibok. It might be members only though. As for paper roadmaps of Norway, these are decent at least: http://www.kartbutikken.no/veikart.php

Hey!
Your trip sounds like its going to be an amazing one. It great that you are gonna be driving through Sweden, Finland and to Norway. I was in Norway last year and had a really good time in Lofoten. I would recommend exploring the islands, the scenery is truly gorgeous. In the summer it is mostly sunny and some rain and best of all you get the chance to catch the midnight sun. I used the site http://www.exploranor.com/ to get some idea of the hiking in Lofoten. I based my hikes on the suggestions on the site and it was a great summer.

All the best! and have a great one :D
