Hello,

I would really like to do some hiking from 1-9 april. But hence the conditions aren't that good at this time of the year, I wondered if there's any nice trail in Norway that is accessible whitout special gear.

And what is Lofoten like at this time of the year? Is it doable to do some walking over there?

Thank you in advance!

Regards,

Imre

Your question is also interesting to me. I am planning a trip to Norway in mid-May, however weather stats claim that it can be just around +10* at the time. I want to go hiking and/or do a bike tour, so I will keep watching you thread. I hope that somebody with good knowledge on the subject responds soon!

In Northern Norway and in the mountains down south April is a very good time for skiing :-) If you want to go hiking, you should do it in the lowlands down south. I would imagine Lofoten to be very nice with snow.

You can't hike in April and May as this is considered winter. The trails are open for hiking from June or July until October. They are open in winter as well but for skiing.

Hello!
If you are travelling in the south of Norway: Usally in southern Norway it would still be winter-ish... However the last few weeks have been really sunny. No more snow, might be some wet pathces of mud in the shadowy parts of the terrain. Today it was over 20 degrees c. in the shadow at 14 o'clock. If you plan to do some hiking in the south, you could try the areas around Oslo (Frognerseteren, Østmarka). But I really recommend the picturesque costal walking trail of vestfold/Larvik (called Kyststien). You will do just fine with jogging shoes and maybe some rain boots.

Have a nice trip!
