what are the must see, which are not online, the personal experiences from fellow travellers
we are 56 and 61, and like hostels too but mainly we like to meet the people. so local B&B as well.
it's our first visit to Scandinavian countries.
should we rent a car, or use public transportation?

Make sure that you understand the distances involved when visiting Norway -and the cost of long distance transport.
Then try to get some IDEA of the region you are interested in!!! - with the knowledge you have, a guidebook form the local library, and homepages like www.visitnorway.com www.visitoslo.com - and the homepages of the tourist office of each town you are interested in,
It is really a waste of time if ppl. start to give all kind of info on the extreme north, Svalbard, Lofoten, trondheim, whale watching, raindeers...if you from the beginning are sure that you will "do" the usual 2 days Oslo, Norway in a Nutshell trip to Bergen an maybe trying to visit one more fjord. This will easily use up your week.
A good trip round Norway for the major must sees is a month+ project
Cannot advise on car or public transport until you have made up your mind re where to go. You cannot travel from one end of Norway to the other (and seeing anything) by car in one week.

A possible route (but mayb a bit inteense and costly) But it covers South-Norways natural highlights from public transportation
Oslo-Røros (5 hour train)
Røros-Trondheim (2 hour train)
Trondheim-Åndalsnes (4 hour train)
Åndalsnes-Bergen (10 hours? Car or bus, so maybe two/three/four stops/sleepovers in between. But this is the main fjord area)..
Bergen-Oslo (7hour train - possible to be on a sleeper train, but the route is among Europes prettiest). Consider a tour Myrdal-Flåm-Myrdal if it wasn't included when you travelled between Åndalsnes and Bergen
If you plan it early, trainfares can be as low as 200 NOK (= €27) (unlimited length). Otherwise it's around 100 NOK pr hour
This route could also be perfect if you rent a car the whole week, even though it's around 5 hour driving each day.
