I intend to visit Norway in May and June and would like to know from travellers who are familiar with the country whether it is most scenic going southwards or northwards as I intend to make the reverse journey via Finland and the Baltic States. My current intention is to go up via Finland and down via Norway. However, is this the most scenic direction? It seems to me that the coast will be on my side of the road if I do this.

I highly doubt it's going to make a difference. If you are driving you will be looking forwards most of the time anyway. While a few fjords, valleys or viewpoints can look more spectacular in one direction than the other, you are going trough so many places; it evens out.

Much more relevant are what detours you are going to take, what time of the day you are passing, and what the weather is like.
