Hello

I am planning a trip to Norway in September of this year and am keen to stay in Lysebotn and do the hike to Kjeragbolten. From the UK, I would be flying with Ryan Air into Haugesund.

I therefore am looking for advice as to how I can get from Haugesund Airport to Lysebotn and so would appreciate any advice on the practicalities of this. I do not plan on hiring a car and so would therefore be relying on public transport.

I have begun to look and am wondering about a bus from Haugesund Airport to Stavanger and then I have seen that there is a ferry from Stavanger to Lysebotn – does this run regulary to Lysebotn at this point in the season?
And then once in Lysebotn, how would I get to the beginning of the hike (without a car) – is there a taxi/bus service that is available?

I would really appreciate any advice at all – have spent hours on the internet trying to find the answers to this!

Thanks,
Charlotte

The bus from Haugesund to Stavanger would be a good choice.
I am not sure if the boat leaves from Stavanger to Lysebotn year round, but I do know it leaves Lauvvik and Forsand year round, since the kids in Lysebotn goes to school in Forsand, and therefor takes the boat mon-friday.
Or maybe you could take this cruise Rødne
There is a bus in the summerseason from Lysebotn-the starting point for the trail to Kjeragbolten, if there isn´t any public transport I would had asked someone who lives there, for a ride.
The road usually closes for winter in october, so you should be fine being there in september.

Is this info helpful? It says that till 25.09 there are buses every friday/saturday/sunday to the beginning of Kjerag, from Stavanger. However, shouldn't be a problem to catch a free ride with someone if you take the ferry (?) to Lysebotn, as longs as it's not a rainy, foggy day...

We have just been to Lysebotn. We tavelled with a motorhome, so I can’t answer the question concerning buses and taxis. However, the ferry between Lysebotn and Stavanger runs twice a day during August (12:00 and 18:00) from Lysebotn and I assume that it will still run on a daily basis even in September. There is a campsite in Lysebotn (it is expensive for what it provides) and I think it has a website. They know the ferry schedule; maybe you can give them a call or send an email. Also there appears to be a field at the end of the valley where lots of people camped presumable for free.
Yu will have a great time
Good luck
Bernd
