Hi there,

I'll be traveling to Norway with my boyfriend at the end of July/early August. We'd like to do a glacier walk and the Besseggen ridge hike, with the itinerary we're looking at it will make the most sense to do these on back-to-back days. We're both in our late 20s and are fit, but we are not fitness nuts.

With regards to the glacier hike, I've contacted Jotunheimen glacier guides (http://jotunheimenglacierguides.com/) about their Blue Ice Trek, but they haven't written me back (~1 week later). Do you have any recommendations regarding guided glacier walks near Lom (we'll be coming from Geiranger the previous day, then headed to Gjendesheim after the walk)? We're looking for something 5-6 hours long, scenic but not too strenuous, as we want to be rested for Besseggen the next day.

Regarding the Besseggen ridge hike, as I understand it one should prepare for cold/wet weather regardless of what it looks like that morning, and pack all necessary food for the day. Beyond that we're just planning on a comfortable backpack, plenty of water, good hiking boots and a GPS and map, anything else I should consider as far as packing?

Many thanks,
Julianne

I did a similar trip a few years back and we stayed at this place http://www.spiterstulen.no/en in Jotunheimen and we went on their hike to the top of Galhøpiggen (the highest mountain in Scandinavia) via a glacier http://www.spiterstulen.no/en/turer/galdhopiggen/
The webiste don't seem to list prices for the hikes, but i remember it being very cheap and we where on a serious budget trip.
We just showed up with our tent with no booking and went to the information meeting in the evening and on the hike the next morning.
The next day we drove to Gjendesheim, spend the night and did the Besseggen ridge the next morning. I think your packing list sounds good and yes, do prepare for bad weather in any case ,it can change quickly.

In Geiranger i can highly recommend hiring kayaks to sail the Fiord, it is amazing. We also hiked to one of the mountain tops on the northern side of the fiord. There was acces to a trail from a carpark in the top of the Eagles road. It was not always well marked and a bit of a scrample but the views where amazing. The local tourist agency in Geiranger where very helpfull with maps and directions.

Have a great trip!
