Norway, like many European countries, today has separation of ownership of the railway infrastructure, and operation of the railway services. The rail services on FlÄmsbana are operated by Norges Statsbaner AS, (Norwegian State Railways Ltd); it is a limited company but it is wholly owned by the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications. Norges Statsbaner operates under the trademark NSB, which was the name of the former integrated railway administration. The actual railway, ie track, signalling, etc, is owned by Jernbaneverket (Railway Administration), which is a government agency.

FlÄmsbana is technically operated by NSB, but a local development agency is responsible for marketing and ticketing. Ticket prices are very high (360 NOK (~33 EUR) for a return ticket, 260 NOK for a one way). Eurail and Interrail passholders have to pay 180 NOK, one way. Walking down from Myrdal is a great experience (takes about 4h), and is a nice way to save some money.
